Shaker Kentucky Butter Cake

3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cup flour
3 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 each egg whites, beaten stiff

Combine flour, baking powder, and salt, and set aside. Cream butter and sugar until vary light and fluffy. Add flour and milk, alternately, to butter mixture. Stir in vanilla. Fold in egg whites. Pour into, 2 greased and lightly floured 9 inch cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees, for about 30 minutes. Frost before serving.

Yield: 16 servings
