Shaker Mulberry Cobbler

4 tablespoon lemon juice
1 quart mulberries
1 1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk

Sweeten mulberries with 1 1/3 cups sugar. Add lemon juice, and cook until hot. Melt butter in baking dish. Add mulberry mixture to baking dish. Mix baking powder, salt, baking soda, flour, 1 cup sugar, and milk. Pour flour mixture over mulberries. Bake at 450 degrees, 50 minutes, or until brown. No top crust is necessary, since the dough cooks up through the mulberries.

Yield: 12 servings
