Stovetop, Chili Beef Stuffing Bake

1 pkg cornbread stuffing mix
1 1/2 cup hot water
1/4 cup butter
1 each onion, chopped
1 lb ground beef, drained
1 can kidney beans, 15oz
1 can tomato sauce, 8oz
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 cup grated cheddar cheese

In large mixing bowl, combine stuffing seasoning packet, hot water, and butter. Stir in stuffing crumbs, just until mixture is moistened. Let stand 5 minutes.In 12 inch skillet, cook chopped onion, and ground beef and drain. Combine ground beef, kidney beans, tomato sauce, and chili powder, in a lightly greased, 9-13 inch baking pan. Top with stuffing mixture, and sprinkle with cheddar cheese. Bake at 375 degrees, 30 minutes.
