Date Bread

1/2 cup boiling water
8 oz dates, chopped
2 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1/2 cup orange juice
1 each egg, beaten
2 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup nuts, chopped

Place dates and butter in bowl. Add boiling water. Let stand until mixture is room temp. Add grated orange peel, orange juice and egg. Add dry ingredients an stir until just mixed. Add nuts. Pour batter in 2 greased and floured bread pans. Bake at 325, 40-45 minutes. Cool, Wrap and store 8 hours before use.
