Decorating Frosting

1 lb powdered sugar
1 each stick butter, softened
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
4 tablespoon milk

In large bowl with mixer at medium low speed, beat powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and 3 tablespoons milk until blended and smooth. Beat in up to 3 additional tablespoons milk as necessary to create an easy spreading consistency. With mixer at medium high speed beat frosting until light and fluffy, about 1 minute. Cover surface with plastic wrap until ready to use to prevent icing from drying out. Makes about 2 and one third cups. For lemon decorator frosting, substitute 2 tablespoons lemon juice for 2 tablespoons milk, and add 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel.
