Mint Julip

1 each sprig spir mint
1 single snow ice
2 oz makers mark whisky
1 teaspoon simple syrup
1 single powdered sugar
1 single simple syrup containing:
1 cup sugar
2 cup water

To prepare simple syrup, place 1 cup sugar and 2 cups water in a medium sauce pan, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and chill. Pour simple syrup into a tightly covered container, and store in refrigerator to use as needed. Place 1 mint leaf in bottom of mint julip glass, and pierce leaf with a spoon or fork. Place a straw in the glass. Pack glass full of shaved, or snow, ice. Carefully drip 1 teaspoon of simple syrup over ice, being sure not to add any extra syrup. Pour whisky directly over syrup, so as to mingle flavors. Using a swizzle stick, poke a hole in the ice to the bottom of the glass. Place a sprig of fresh mint in the hole, and pack more ice into glass. To garnish, dust tip of mint leaves with powdered sugar. Serve immediately.
